First run - miserable

Run 1: 3 miles - time n/a, had to walk in the middle

Okay - so that was a lot harder than I thought it would be.  Probably went off too fast (even though I thought I was taking it steady), and got to the half-way point and just ran out of energy.  Had to walk most of the way back, and then ran for the last 1/2 mile or so.   So probably did 2 miles of running with 1 mile of walking in the middle.

It was quite a hilly route, so I'm blaming that for the lack of energy.   I think for the next route I'm going to go for something a bit shorter and a bit flatter.  Run more slowly and hope to run all the way.

Hills: Rubbish

Getting back into running

For the past five years I've done hardly any exercise.  The odd run here, the odd game of football there, but nothing serious and nothing that hasn't left me exhausted.  As a result I'm overweight (15st 8lbs) with very little energy, and I'm desperate to do something about it.

It didn't used to be this way;  I was a keen runner at school and after leaving university, but work and family pressure means that I've fallen out of the habit.  I still have my old running shoes, so I'm determined to get back into running again.

I guess I'm not the only one in this position, so I thought I'd start this blog to chart my progress in getting 'back into running', which hopefully might help anyone else in a similar position.  Also I've heard that the discipline of filling in the blog helps you stick to a training regime, so hopefully it will help me too.

Anyway - off on my first run for years, will post when I get back to let you know how it went.  I'm looking at a 3 mile route (out 1.5 miles and back) and I'm going to take it really steady.  Wish me luck...
